I found my winter wonderland in Switzerland

[:en]It is called Adelboden and it has all I have ever imagined about Switzerland: mountains and snow, perfect views and spas, good food and friendly people.[:]

As I said many times before, I am a summer kind of girl. Nothing can beat a day on the beach with the sun burning my skin and a Pina Colada in my hand.

On the other side, I have always wanted to visit Switzerland. And because my high school best friend, Emma, and her fiancée moved there two years ago, I decided to pay them a visit. We did a tour of this beautiful country and I managed to find my winter wonderland just in the heart of it. It is called Adelboden and it has all I have ever imagined about Switzerland: mountains and snow, perfect views and spas, good food and friendly people. Top that with a crystal clear lake in the area and you have the perfect winter landscape.

WHERE

Adelboden is a Swiss Alpine village in the Bernese Oberland region. It’s known for the ski resort of Adelboden-Lenk, host of the FIS Ski World Cup. It is located just 65 km from Bern, 110 from Lucerne or 150 km from Basel. We arrived from Bern by car and the village was easy to find and get to even if it snowed the whole day.

PS: I will tell you all about these destinations, plus Zurich in my next post about the amazing Switzerland.

ACCOMMODATION

I came across this magical village while searching for the perfect hotel in the Swiss mountains. I wanted to have a great view, but also the perfect outdoor pool and preferably a good spa area.

And there it was! The Cambrian Hotel in Adelboden made the click and convinced me to visit the area. Offering stunning mountain views in every direction, this hotel gives you the perfect reason to dream with your eyes open.

CHECKING IN

Everything was perfect from the beginning. It was already dark by the time we arrived, around 5 in the afternoon, and Chiara was waiting for us. She kindly explained us everything we needed to know about the accommodation and the village and welcomed us in our cozy room after booking us a table for dinner. We even had a little yummy surprise waiting for us.

Our room was located on the first floor and the moment I stepped on the balcony, I knew Switzerland will find a place in my heart. I saw a winter fairytale before me: the majestic Swiss Alps covered in snow, Christmas trees beautifully decorated and lovely wood houses everywhere. We just poured a glass of wine and enjoyed the panorama for a while.

WELLNESS AND SPA

The Cambrian makes sure you will enjoy your time to the fullest. Their spa was just amazing for relaxation and also the reason we chose this hotel: incorporating heated indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a well equipped gym, tranquil treatment rooms, a Finnish sauna with steam bath and rain shower and a lovely sleeping area. They also provide spa treatments and massages, but be sure to book in advance.

PS: If you are a guest of the hotel, the entrance to the spa is free of charge. Additional charges will apply for spa treatments.

I totally fell in love for the outdoor heated pool. Imagine yourself gazing at the snow-capped mountains on the other side of the valley. Unfortunately, the pictures won’t give enough credit to the beautiful pool area because of the steams and the fog. There were around -5 degrees Celsius outside in the evening.

The pool area is amazing both by day and by night. If you are lucky and the sun is up, you can admire the gorgeous view from the hot pool. We were lucky enough to have snow in the morning and sun by noon. How perfect can that be?

FOOD

After enjoying some spa time in the evening, we had a dinner reservation for 8.30 pm. The restaurant is located right by the heated pool so the view is also great. Take a look at the pictures and imagine how tasty the food was. We chose the salmon and the lamb chops and I would not change a thing.

PS: The lamb chops were probably the best I have ever eaten 🙂

But let’s not forget about the delicious breakfast. Cheese lovers will be as happy as possible since they have so many options to choose from. Go early, catch a window table and start the day properly.

THE LOBBY

The most beautiful area of the hotel, except from the spa of course, was the fireplace in the lobby where you can enjoy a glass of wine in the evening or a cup of delicious tea. Window walls allow you to admire the panorama on daylight while reading a book or a travel blog for your next dream destination. For me, it was the perfect place to write my new blog post so you can find all the info you need about this winterish piece of heaven.

PLACES AROUND

Just 20 kilometers from The Cambrian Adelboden, you will find another winter gem – Blausee. While we were preparing the itinerary, Emma told me about this magical place and we decided to explore it on our way to another Swiss city, Luzern.

Blausee is a small lake in the Kander valley that is definitely worth visiting if you are in the area. Thanks to its very special color and the crystal-clear water, which has its source in subterranean springs, Blausee is one of the best-known mountain lakes in Switzerland.

The legend says one beautiful maiden with blue eyes and a broken heart cried and her tears formed the lake. That is why you will see a woman statue in the water.

The snowy trees were the perfect touch for the most beautiful winterish landscape.
