Our romantic experience at Theva Residency in Kandy, Sri Lanka

Our Sri Lankan adventure started in Kandy at the magical Theva Residency so you can easily imagine why we fell in love with this country! If we ever go back to explore some more, we will sure pay a visit to this magical place again!

As I said in my previous article, in the next few weeks, I am going to sum up all the important information from our Sri Lankan adventure, so it would be easier for you, guys, to plan your own holiday: accommodation, transportation, experiences, where and what to eat, mandatory tourist attractions.

As I showed you in our itinerary, after we landed at Colombo Airport, we went straight to the heart of the country, the previous capital city – Kandy, where we chose to stay at the beautiful Theva Residency.

PS: We opted for private transportation on the island and I have to thank Sri Lanka by Car for the best services (I will write an entire article dedicated to transportation, traffic and safety).

It is time to give you all the information regarding Theva Residency and show you some pictures to fall in love as we did.

1.     THE HOTEL

From the moment we arrived at Theva Residency, I felt the holiday vibes. The kind and friendly Abey received us with a big smile on his face and a delicious & refreshing welcome drink.

The hotel is situated on the slopes of the Hantana mountain range in the Kandy District Region and awaits you with luxurious rooms that offer breathtaking views over the Kandy hills.

The many facilities at Theva Residency such as infinity pool, sauna and hammam, fine dining restaurant, library and games room, will convince you to never leave this place.

PS: I loved the hotel’s design because they used large windows both in the rooms and in the restaurant which gives the idea of space and coziness.

2.     OUR JACUZZI SUITE

We have arrived pretty early at Theva Residency because we landed at 6AM in Colombo and the transportation between the airport and Kandy took around 3-3.30 hours, so we needed to wait around 2 hours for our room to be ready. We knew the wait was totally worth it when we saw our amazing suite at the top floor that offered the best view of the area and a dreamy Jacuzzi to pamper ourselves.

Seriously, I didn’t want to leave the room even though my wandering heart was screaming!

TIP: If you do decide to add Theva Residency to your itinerary, be sure to allow yourself a day just to sit & relax: drink a cup of traditional tea in the window while admiring the scenery, spoil yourself (and your partner, of course) with a bubble/flowers bath, relax by the infinity pool, try the delicious dishes at the restaurant.

3.     BREAKFAST WITH A VIEW

Our second morning in Sri Lanka sure started in style with a breathtaking view, but also yummy food. I would love to start all my mornings like this. Just look at the photo and you will agree with me.

Every guest is welcomed at the table with tea/coffee based on preferences, fresh fruit juice, tropical fruit platter (yum!!!), croissants, gem & butter.

After this spoiling moment, you can choose a dish from the breakfast menu and believe me it won’t be an easy pick. I almost always choose fried eggs one side with bacon and my boyfriend goes for vegetables omelette and we were not disappointed at all. To sum up, it felt like we arrived in the breakfast’s paradise!

PS: Be sure to get up early and catch the best table as we did J

4.     POOL AREA

Another strong point of the property is the infinity pool which also offers great views over Kandy hills. The pool area is not big, you have around 6-8 sun loungers, but we had no problems in finding free ones available. There is also a sauna and a hammam available near the pool if you want to spoil yourself and have a “spa” day.

PS: Be sure to spend the afternoon near the pool because here you have the best sunset view!

5.     WHY CHOOSE THEVA RESIDENCY

As I have told you before, I don’t recommend hotels that don’t steal my heart away and I always post as many pictures as I can in order to convince you I am not bluffing. Being a travel blogger sure has its perks regarding accommodation and other services, but I always remain honest and say the truth in my reviews.

Theva Residency was by far the most epic start for our Sri Lankan holiday and the staff there convinced me of that with their kindness and availability to help all the time. Everything was extremely clean and their attention to details is the thing that makes the difference.

I recommend this hotel to everyone, but especially to couples because it has the perfect romantic vibes. Honeymooners should definitely put this place on the list and choose the Jacuzzi suite for the perfect luxury experience.

6.     WHY VISIT KANDY AND TOURIST ATTRACTIONS AROUND

You are probably wandering why you should visit Kandy and why not head directly to beach. Well, Sri Lanka is so much more than its beaches and if you want to fully experience this island, you have to understand their culture and religion and there is no better place to start than from the heart of the country, the former capital city.

Because I want to give you all the information about what you can visit in Kandy, but also in the nearby popular places such as Dambulla and Sigiriya, tomorrow I will post a separate article on this matter. I am sure you will understand why this part of the country should be on your list too.
